About – Aloha In Every Feather

It warms my heart to share this old photo of my very special Dad, Lawrence Abreu. I believe this photo was taken sometime in the 60’s. He is pictured here with my first pet Mynah bird that I enjoyed as a child in Pukalani, Maui. Dad is having some conversation here with our pet “Ho Chi Minh”, our domesticated common mynah bird which my dad rescued from upcountry Maui.
My Dad served in the service back then and my bird’s namesake is an example of his sense of humor. Although my Dad left this earth in 2010, his love continues to nurture me. “Daddy” was always my best friend, all through childhood, and even as an adult. He instilled my love of birds and it’s with great love for him

that I dedicate this book,
“Aloha In Every Feather”, to my special Dad who surely lived “The Aloha Way”.
A story about including others, understanding emotions, leadership, and Hawaiian values as six Maui birds welcome Kōlea to the slopes of Haleakalā. Children learn fun facts about each of the bird characters and their diverse personalities. The book ends with learning extensions and joyous songs. Visit my song tab to find the songs with dances. Browse through the rest of my website’s tabs for so much more! Follow me on Instagram, @kumulorimaui, to see how I use my book in our community. I encourage you to also share with me how you use my book and its resources with your keiki at home and in the schools.
