Hereʻs an excerpt from my daughter Rachelʻs school journal (90ʻs)where she mentions my winking whale dream that inspired my story, Mo`o and Koholā. This was a fun, special find as I transported her momentos to her from MY storage.
Mo`o and Koholā develop a loving friendship out of Lahaina harbor and help teach us how friends can be different, compassionate and share aloha. The emergencies they encounter in the ocean help us explore feelings such as fear, trust, bravery, and appreciation. Our characters teach us Hawaiian values of Mālama, Kōkua, Laulima, Lokahi and Aloha as they problem solve and overcome challenges with one another and their larger community. Keiki are introduced to fun whale facts as our story unfolds, culminating with joyous whale songs and dances to help reinforce concepts learned. I have been deeply touched by the outpouring of aloha and compassion I've witnessed working alongside volunteers in our Maui community in the wake of the recent devastating wildfires. With your purchase of Mo`o and Koholā, you will be contributing to Maui's strength and resilience as proceeds from the sales of this story will be donated to the ongoing rebuilding of Lahaina.
